From the Principal:
It is a new year, and it is time to check your child’s progress. If your child is making less than an 80 in any subject, please make an appointment with the teacher to discuss ways to help your child. This spring semester will fly by, so take advantage of the tools and resources SLE offers you. I am committed to helping the children, parents, and teachers of SLE in any way I can. Please plan to attend the PTO meeting January 14 at 6 p.m. to learn more.- JH
In Case of Bad Weather…
January sometimes brings with it bad winter weather. In the event we have to close school, you will receive an automated phone call from the superintendent’s office. Please make sure the school has your most current phone number on file. SLE will also try to alert you by letter when possible. You can also find out about school closing information by listening to Kicks 98, KIX 107.5 and WJMI 99.7 on the radio. All three major television stations in Jackson will also carry school closing news for your information. Let’s hope that we don’t have to call off school. If we do, we will have to make it up in the spring!
SLE Invites Public for School Tour
Principal Henderson invites the public to take a tour of SLE on January 12. Please call the school at 253-2324 to sign up for a time to tour the school between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. If you know of businesses and civic groups that are interested, please pass this information along.
Fourth Grade Plans MLK Jr. Program
Students in Mrs. Drury’s and Mrs. Williamson’s fourth grade classes will present a play recognizing the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plan to come to the program Friday, January 29 at 9 a.m.
Astronomy Demonstration Planned
Presenters from the Rainwater Observatory in French Camp will bring their telescope to SLE January 19 for students to look at the stars, Mars, and the moon. A special lecture and star gazing will be given from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Please call the school to sign up for this free and fun presentation.
Principal Visits Local Churches
Mr. Henderson thanks the congregations of Jones Chapel and Truelight Church for allowing him to visit and share news about SLE and the school’s accountability status. If your church is interested, please contact the school to schedule a time and date.
