Teaching Positions Open

People call me from time to time asking about teaching positions. We do not have any openings at SLE at this time, but I have heard of 16 openings in Scott County Schools, and I read in today's Sunday paper (5.8.11) that the Hazelhurst School District has several openings.
Job hunting is tough this year, but people seeking work will find openings. I will post other openings as I learn about them. Good luck, and let me know how I can help. We need good teachers and administrators!

Henderson Receives Ph.D.

Well, SLE is the first school in the county that has a doctor for a principal! In this picture is Dr. Kay Brocato who "hooded" me during MSU's graduation ceremony April 29, 2011. Thanks to everyone for your support. - JH

Singapore Math on Today Show

Below is a link to a clip from the Today Show reporting on Singapore Math. The main point here is that parents are having to "go back to class" to learn how to help their children learn today's math lessons. Click on the link below to view the report.

Guided Reading Training

Deborah Simpson, third from left, conducts training with first and second grade teachers in guided reading during our recent staff development. SLE teachers are implementing the reading strategies to improve students' reading skills. Our next PTO meeting will feature strategies parents can implement at home to help their children learn to read.

SLHS Homcoming 2010

Here are just a few picture from our 2010 Homecoming Parade. The weather was great, and the crowd was happy. The Wildcats put a hurttin' on the Bulldogs, too!

I think it was Mrs. Murrell's idea to include the Mardi Gras hats, masks and beads.

Even Mrs. Bloodsaw enjoyed helping prepare the lineup for the parade.

The Big Blue Pride of SLHS led off the parade this year.

The Walnut Grove Fire Truck made plenty of noise as we went around town.

Wow! What a great turnout downtown for the parade. I think they were having a good time, too.

Here is a picture for part of the homecoming program at half-time.
