Ms. Tate Receives Honor

Charlene Tate is shown here shaking hands with Leake County School Board President Paul Chamblee as she receives recognition for being selected South Leake Elementary's Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Tate was selected because of her continued love for teaching and unselfishness in working with students.

Breakfast of Champions

I want to thank the staff for making this a great year, and a great end-of-the-year! We had a great time eating breakfast at Christina's downtown Walnut Grove Friday. I want to thank Marty Clark for returning to SLE to share with the staff ideas for a second year of professional development from MSU's Writing Thinking Institute.

Everyone at SLE also wants to thank the SLE PTO, the SLE Jr. Beta, and the Walnut Grove Thursday Club for contributing to food and refreshments for this week to finish out our Teacher Appreciation Week celebration.

Final Days

Friday will be awards day for our students at SLE. The sixth graders received some of their honors early Thursday thanks to the fifth and sixth grade teachers and Mr. Hathorn. We want to remind these students to remember us as we will always remember them. Come see us and tell us how your trip down life's road is going for you.

Spring Festival A Success

Thanks goes to the many parents who took part in the PTO Spring Carnival Monday!

MCT2 Test Week May 12-14

SLE students will be taking their MCT2 tests May 12 (Language Arts), 13 (Reading), and 14 (Math). The PTO will host activities Monday to give students a chance to relax a little before the big tests. We'll provide pictures soon, and we invite parents to come to the school to help out and share in the fun. Games Monday start at 8:30 a.m.

Awards Day is scheduled for Friday, May 15. More details will be coming Monday. Call the school (253-2324) for more information.

Stennis Trip Pictures

We finally did take our field trip to the Stennis Space Center April 17. I will add more pictures as we get permission to do so. In the meantime, consider taking a day to drive your children to the center for a great and educational family field trip of your own!
